Choosing a format
Automatic mode converts PNG and WebP to WebP and keeps JPG as JPG. Other accepted formats become JPG. GIF animation is not preserved.

Are my images uploaded?
No. This tool reads, compresses, previews and packages images in your browser without uploading them to our server.
Why is my PNG not much smaller?
PNG is lossless, so the quality setting does not reduce PNG quality or guarantee a smaller file. Try WebP or JPG for lossy compression, or reduce the width.
What happens to transparency?
WebP and PNG preserve transparency. JPG replaces transparent areas with white.
Why was the original image kept?
An already optimized image may become larger when encoded again. With Keep the smaller file enabled and no resizing needed, the original is returned, including its original format.
